Twenty Six

I told Willow about the system I’d taken the battleship from.

She didn’t have any orders for the day, since this was still considered a holiday by Haven, and thus Jon’s militia, so she called her two battalions to mobilize. I moved Justice to Willow’s planet, where Fina and Dorm appeared as hollos on the bridges of their Justices.

Willow and I moved over to her ship, Smaug, and I was surprised when a couple of minutes later, George Murdock and his captains all popped up as well. He was grinning, so a day off didn’t seem to be something he wanted.

Mind you, there were other reasons why he might have that sort of grin on his face, so I wasn’t going to ask. Especially when Morgan appeared in the hollo behind him for a few moments.

He was officially Willow’s admiral, so even if she’d told him to stay home, I knew he wouldn’t do that. He was the only man alive who’d been knighted by Willow’s people, after all. And that bestowed a lot of loyalty.

With Fina and Dorm’s second Justices, he commanded ten of them. Willow had previously also had my home force, but those were now back in my own space, where no-one knew exactly where they were. And there they were staying, with Hell’s Donkey, as a response fleet if I needed them for core Imperium space.

With Justice herself, he had an eleventh behemoth to command, and I made sure he knew Leanne was flying her, since I was with Willow. I also made sure George understood I had no command role here. There was also Smaug, and Willow’s Intrepid class carrier, but without pilots for fighters. It was still a good gun platform if flown properly. George didn’t think we needed fighters for what that system had, so Willow didn’t request any.

I wasn’t quite sure what I was doing here, since Willow had a Lufafluf crew, and both of us were basically passengers for now. And this was Willow’s command. I pinged Haynes we were going to be in his area, and received ‘Proceed’ back, and nodded to Willow. She nodded to her captain, and the fleet started jumping.

There was no need to put in a new rift. There was already a jump point from here to Wonderland, and another one to Kelewan. From there, it was local jumping out beyond the cluster to the target system.

“We should really take care of a couple of the closest Keerah fleets,” suggested Leanne, who was now a hollo as well, being Justice’s captain with me not being there.

She was even sitting in the captain’s chair, like she’d always been there. I realised I needed to start thinking of her that way, because she’d earned it. Most of the time she did the actual flying, even when in combat. It was time I showed her that mattered to me.

“We can handle the local fleet,” said Willow, meaning her troops could. “Go,” she said to George.

“Going,” he echoed, and began giving orders to his people.
